This weekend we finally completed our week-long "Bridging the Gap" in collaboration with the Lexington Public Library (read more in this Spectrum New story -). 8 Lexington middle schools, most from the Winburn neighborhood, learned the history of hip hop culture, how to create beats, and the art of writing rhymes. In just 4 days' time, these amazing young people got in the recording studio (most for the first time ever) and recorded a new job. Below is a link to your promo video and video links to the songs they recorded. Hip hop is the most influential artform today, especially among many youth and young adults. We are always trying to find creative ways to incorporate hip hop in our mentoring practices.
